Data Controller:
Mr Darren P Steere
Collected Personal Data:
Through The Veil Paranormal Research (TTV) is a Data Controller under the terms of the DPA 2018. The DPA applies to all ‘personal data,’ meaning any information relating to an identifiable living individual who can be directly or indirectly recognized through specific data or other information serving as an identifier. An ‘identifier’ can be any piece of information enabling the identification of a specific person, such as a name, case name, membership (e.g., society researcher), identification number, location data, or online identifier. UK Data Protection Laws, along with the PECR, were established to address changes in modern technology and the ways organizations collect personal information. This legislation applies to both automated electronic systems and manual computer-based systems, as well as traditional paper-based filing systems where personal data are organized and stored. Data must be collected only for specific lawful purposes and retained solely for those purposes.
A second category of personal data, referred to as Special Category Data, is more sensitive and includes information such as:
(a) racial or ethnic origin
(b) political opinions
(c) religious or similar beliefs
(d) memberships
(e) physical or mental health condition
(f) sexual orientation
(g) criminal record
(h) proceedings for any offence committed or alleged.
Through The Veil Paranormal Research (TTV) has determined that, for general and administrative purposes, this type of data is not relevant and will not be collected. The only possible exception to this strict rule is data that may be collected when an individual reports a potential case of current or historic paranormal activity to us and any subsequent elucidation or investigation of the individual case concerned as part of our ongoing brief to research and investigate Spontaneous Cases as per the objects, aims and objectives of Through The Veil Paranormal Society.
Purpose of Collecting Data:
Through The Veil Paranormal Research Society will only hold data for the following purposes:
- Realising the society's objectives.
- Providing a strictly confidential Spontaneous Cases Service.
- Maintaining and extending our archives.
- Journalism & the media where necessary.
- Keeping legally required accounts & records.
- Membership administration.
Managing Data Protection:
Many organisations and governmental bodies including some charities are required by the terms and conditions of the UK Data Protection Laws to appoint a Data Protection Officer, DPO, to oversee the operation of this legislation within an organisation. Through The Veil paranormal Research does not fall within this category, but we have chosen to voluntarily appoint a Lead Researcher member to act as our DPO.
